You’re Exactly Where You’re Supposed to Be
You know those days when you wonder, “Why am I here? Why this season? Why not something different—or easier?” You’re not alone. I’ve had those thoughts too, often when life feels uncertain or just plain hard.
That’s why this quote by C.H. Spurgeon stopped me in my tracks:
“Remember this, had any other condition been better for you than the one in which you are, God would have put you there.”
It’s so simple, yet so powerful. It reminds me that our circumstances however imperfect or uncomfortable are in fact not accidents. They’re intentional. And that’s a hard but also a freeing truth to rest in.
Sometimes, it’s easier to believe that growth only happens in new places. That the next job, the next relationship, or the next town is where life will finally make sense. But what if where you are now is the exact tierra where your roots are meant to deepen and grow?
I’m learning that God doesn’t waste seasons. He doesn’t waste the quiet ones. He doesn’t waste the messy ones. Especially those, the messy ones!. There’s purpose in the waiting, wisdom in the struggle / storm, and beauty in the becoming—even when we can’t see it yet.
So maybe instead of striving for a different “there,” we can pause and ask: What’s here for me right now? What is God teaching me in this very place? What do I need to change and improve?
Maybe you’re being shaped. Maybe you’re being refined. Or maybe you’re just being held—right here, exactly as you are.
And that’s enough for today.
So take a breath. Look around. You’re not behind. You’re not off track. You’re in the hands of a God who places us with purpose. And if any other place had been better for you? He would’ve put you there.
With love, in the middle of my storm, Katie-lyn Smith
